To get a real estate license in the state of Illinois, becoming a licensed real estate agent requires a number of pre-licensing education hours before taking the state licensing exam.

Illinois Real Estate License Requirements

Pass The Illinois Real Estate State Exam

Once the pre-licensing education is completed, individuals must pass a state licensing exam. The registration process is done online – you are emailed a certificate when you pass the class, and your successful completion is reported directly to the State via an online portal.

Required State of Illinois Continuing Education

In addition to the pre-licensing education and licensing exam, all real estate agents in Illinois must also complete continuing real estate education every two years to maintain your license. This is called the 45 Hour Post-License Course. The continuing education requirement is set by the IDFPR, and typically includes courses on legal updates, ethics, and fair housing laws.
