Sorry to hear that you haven’t passed your licensing exam yet! We want to be sure that you are aware of all of the resources you have access to as you prepare to test once more. Before you test again, be sure that you have done each of these things (click each item for more details):
Step 1 – Get instructor feedback
Send your score report from the test to [email protected]
She and an instructor will look over it and help you determine which chapters to focus your study on.
Step 2 – Read through the entire text at least twice
Why should I do that?
Even though there are certain sections and topics that are asked about most often, anything from the book can be asked about. Since the questions you are given are randomly selected from the state’s very large bank of several thousand questions, it is important that you have a working knowledge of anything that could be asked about.
Step 3 – Go through all of your online materials
Watch all of the chapter videos
These are found in the Classroom Course Online Materials for classroom students OR Online Course, Part I if you were an online student. The chapter videos are a video review of each chapter presented by our instructor, Sam Zakarian. The video for each chapter can be found within the content for the chapter.
Take all of the chapter quizzes and receive at least an 80%
These are included in the Classroom Course Online Materials if you were a classroom student OR Online Course, Part I if you were an online student. It is very, very, VERY important that when taking these quizzes, you are not just memorizing the answers to each question. Instead, you should focus on understanding the content that is being asked about. Be sure you are not memorizing questions as the state will not ask questions in exactly the same way.
Check your understanding with "APPENDIX A: ADDITIONAL MATH PROBLEMS & SOLUTIONS"
This tool is located in the Classroom Course Online Materials for classroom students OR Online Course, Part I for online students. It has only been available since 2019 as we are continually working to improve our course for you. You will find Appendix A near the bottom of the course content, just above the Glossary. This tool contains 22 math questions. When you submit the quiz, you will be given a detailed explanation of how to solve each problem that you missed.
Go through the Test Prep Video Series
The Test Prep Video Series is an additional 6+ hours of video of our instructor, Sam Zakarian, reviewing the most important topics for the exam. Be sure that you have watched, taken notes on, and worked through all of the Series content, and taken the Quiz.
Take the 540 Question Practice Exam
This is included only with the Platinum package. Be sure that you have taken and scored at least an 80% on each section of this practice exam. Again, it is critically important that you are not simply memorizing the answer to questions, but are instead focusing on understanding the content that is being asked about.
Want even more questions to practice with? There is a tool you can purchase called Exam Smart that you may find useful. It is from a real estate exam prep company and will give you a very large number of different questions to work through. Again, be sure you are not simply memorizing the answers to their questions as the state will ask different questions.
Listen to the Audiobook in the background
This is included only with the Platinum package. Take advantage of the Audiobook and listen to the text in the car, on the bus, while you’re cooking dinner, etc. The more time you spend hearing and working to understand the information, the better.
Take the Sample Exam and score at least 80%
Feel like you’re ready to test again, but want to practice one more time? Take our Sample Exam here – https://realestateschoolchicago.com/sample-test
This test is timed and has 125 questions. You will receive a score report at the end that will show you two things:
- How you did with the content from each chapter. For example, it may tell you that you got 100% of the questions from chapter 3 correct and only 60% of the questions from chapter 5 correct. If that’s the case, you would know to study chapter 5 some more.
- Which questions you missed and where to find the correct answer in the book. Use this information to learn the content that you have not mastered yet.
Again, be sure that you are not memorizing the answers to these questions, but that you are using this information to determine what you still need to work on to understand more fully. Scoring an 80% after you have seen all of the correct answers and memorized what you got wrong, does not mean that you understand the material.
Once you’ve successfully done all of these things, you should be prepared to test with the state again! We wish you the best of luck on your next attempt!
NEW! For the first time in many years, CRES is offering a full day in person review course with the one and only Sam Zakarian! If you would like a one day intensive review session, click here for details.
