REAL ESTATE LICENSE REQUIREMENTS FOR PASSING THE ILLINOIS REAL ESTATE EXAM
Note: this page is current as of Wednesday, November 20th, 2024
With the help of the Chicago Real Estate School, passing the Illinois Real Estate Exam is a goal you CAN accomplish!
Once you complete the course (minimum 15 hours of live instruction and the online quizzes), you have fulfilled all of IDFPR’s requirements and are eligible to take the state licensing exam. Students no longer have to pass a course final exam to be eligible for the state licensing exam, but are required to take chapter quizzes and score at least 75% on each. We still encourage all students to take what used to be our course final exam as a “Sample Exam”. This will allow you to test yourself on how well you know the information. The sample exam is offered online and a link is sent out to all students at the end of each course. The sample exam contains 125 multiple-choice questions. You’ll have 3 ½ hours to complete the test, and a score of 75% is considered passing (results are provided immediately upon completion).
The Illinois Real Estate Exam contains 140 multiple-choice questions. 100 of these questions are national questions and 40 are state questions.
- There may be 5 – 10 unscored questions on your exam that PSI uses for future exam development.
- The state exam costs $58 each time you take it.
- You’ll have 2 ½ hours to complete the national portion of the test, and a score of 70% is required to pass.
- You’ll have 90 minutes to complete the state portion of the test, and a score of 75% is required to pass.
- Results are provided immediately upon completion.
From the time that you complete your course, you have up to two years to take and pass the state exam; you can take it as soon as two business days after meeting the course requirements. The state exam is administered 6 days per week at locations around the Chicago area, or online 7 days a week throughout the year. You’ll be emailed written directions for signing up for the state exam, when you finish your course. The registration process is done online – you are emailed a certificate when you pass the class, and your successful completion is reported directly to the State via an online portal.
